The Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa established in 1989 reminds me of an island paradise escape. For a more picturesque Dubai scenario, I’d say it’s a cross between the Century Village in Al Garhoud and Le Meridien Airport Hotel.
Loca Restaurant & Bar has been creating a sensational buzz for years but I for one took my time and finally graced a visit on a Saturday night. The south of the border fayre is evident on the sleek menu which is kept to a limitation of favorites as well as lesser known more traditional dishes which I was glad to see.
Kicking off in a true old-fashioned way, a pitcher of Margarita was order as it was conveyed by the server of being the crowd favorite flavor and oh so YES it was. The pitcher was gushed with ease as the taste of the strawberry puree swirled well with the alcohol buzz.
The guacamole, I hear is the talk of the town but I decided to give it a miss as an appetizer, since it’s a condiment for select mains on the menu and offers a sufficient serving that provided a taste which was light and made with fresh ripe avocados.
A chestnut cheese and mushroom quesadillas was exceptional as the nuttiness of the chestnuts complimented the earthiness of the mushroom while the stringy cheese balanced the taste.
The sharing platter (oh how I wish I did not have to share) consisted of select tasters from the starter menu. Black bean quesadillas, prawns on sticks, chicken / beef wraps and more were absolutely delicious, filling and a brilliant start to the Loca feast.
Filling up on refillable nachos, WIN, the two mains ordered for the night consisted of a sharable De Pollo Fajita with the usual suspects: a bowl of pico de gallo, sour cream, guacamole, Mexican rice and refillable tortillas. The chunky slices of the grilled chicken held well when wrapped with the delightful complimenting condiments.
The Carne Asada, a burrito rolled with succulent pieces of beef accompanied with ranchero sauce and freshly made guacamole topped with salsa sauce and melted manchego cheese. Yum!
I longed for a dessert and what’s better than a Tres Leches Cake. If you haven’t tasted the cake as yet, then you’re MISSING OUT on one of the finest cake creations.
What’s not to LOVE with a cake that soaks up a three combinations of milk?!. As expected, the cake was soft and oozed milk with each bite with the scoop of chocolate ice-cream adding to the intensity of the famed dessert.
A great way to end a Mexican feast, although the authenticity lacks in the ambiance and environment it’s made up with the food served up at Loca.
