I recently published a post on bakeries in U.A.E falling short on delivering actual “cakes” more-so an inch of cake dolloped with layers and layers of what seems to be a usual trend of butter cream icing.
A few bakeries which I have come across are an exception such as La Brioche in Dubai & Abu Dhabi, La Gaufrette in Dubai and Gateaux a specialty cake shop in Dubai as well.
The first taste of La Brioche was at a family event, the cake was of a different caliber to what one usually visualizes as a birthday cake. To my surprise, the first slice was cut and all I could see was actual layers of cake and the taste was just what one craves for in a cake with the smooth icing which did not overcome the chocolaty goodness of the cake.
I googled the nearest location of La Brioche, as one would and the very next day headed to Mirdif City Centre in Dubai. It was love at first sight, with rows of freshly decorated cakes topped with a few cakes topped with chocolate ganache (my favorite). On display were mini tartlets gleaming with fresh fruits, along with macaroons boasting various colors… just a few varieties of the pastries all served at La Brioche.
La Gaufrette is “the” hidden gem of Tecom, the service is not one expects and I doubt I will see a change anytime soon but the cakes, the glorious slices of cakes makes up for the absolute lack of service.
A chocolate waffle indulgences session at La Gaufrette, Tecom.
Last of the cake paradise shops and what I hear is a crowd favorite is Gateaux – another hidden and I say hard to find gem. The cakes tasted are delicious with a few unique in taste. The prices vary but if you’re unsure, taste the slices of cake before placing an order or sort.
